The Mamprugu Youth Association (MAYA), Binduri Chapter, is demanding investigations and action against fake Facebook accounts it accuses of spreading false accusations and threats of violence in Binduri.
MAYA made the demand at a press conference in Bolgatanga on Monday, September 7, 2026, where its Spokesperson for the Binduri Mamprugu Elders and MAYA Binduri Chapter, Peter Adams, raised concerns about the growing reliance on unverified social media content in security intelligence and investigations.
Mr. Adams named several Facebook accounts operating under the names Harry Awintis, Daduri Naaba, De Badest and an entity described as “Intelligence Centre,” urging security agencies to examine their public posts and assess the information they are putting into circulation.
For MAYA, the concern goes beyond the existence of the accounts to how information from such platforms is treated once it reaches security agencies. Mr. Adams questioned whether allegations published on social media are independently verified before they are relied upon for intelligence gathering and investigations.
“Should the Police act on every allegation on social media without independent verification?” Mr. Adams asked.
Security operations, he said, must be grounded in credible, verifiable intelligence and evidence rather than rumours, accusations or narratives manufactured on social media. Information circulating online, he added, must first be distinguished from credible intelligence before it can form the basis for security action.
That concern, he said, raises a broader question about the professional intelligence structures of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces.
“What has happened to the professional intelligence apparatus of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces?” Mr. Adams asked.
MAYA is consequently calling for investigations and action against persons using social media to make false accusations and threats of violence, while urging security agencies to ensure the information informing their operations is credible, verifiable and independently assessed.
The Association says the demand forms part of its broader call for professionalism, fairness and accountability in security operations in Binduri.
