Deputy Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, Johnson Ayine, has attributed his party’s poor performance in the Upper East Region in the 2020 general elections to what he said was the limited number of visits by Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the region.

“The absence of Bawumia in Upper East also contributed to our poor performance. Because in 2016, when he was going round; in my community for instance he came not less than twice. During one of his visits to my community, after greeting the chief and the chief narrated a story about him [the chief] and Bawumia’s father; and he was so happy. And when Bawumia started speaking Manpruli, many people said he is one of us. So when he was here with the Manpruli and all that, it got the people to see him as one of us. But ahead of the 2020 elections, he came and was met with the Kobore bridge disaster and another time, his visit was interrupted by the death of former President Rawlings. All those things affected affected us.” He said on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East programme.

Mr. Ayine went on to advise the newly nominated Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) in the Upper East Region to create and maintain a healthy relationship with the top officials in Government especially the president and the vice president.

He pointed out how difficult it could be to get the attention of either the President or his Vice to one’s region or district if the persons are not in good relationships with them.
