NPP communicator questions NDC’s gravitas to advise government

Deputy Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region, Johnson Ayine, has said the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has no moral dignity to advise the current government on how best to manage the economy.

According to him, the hardship that bedevils the country was created by the NDC since it is the only party that has been in power more than any other political party.

He was reacting to the NDC’s call on the current government to among other things scrap the sanitation (‘Boala’) levy at their press conference yesterday.

The recent increment in petroleum prices has stirred anger from the public, with the NDC being the latest group to express its fury on the development.

But Mr. Ayine argues that the NDC does not have the moral integrity to complain because the cost of living under the NDC in 2016 was higher compared to the current situation.

He said the current government is sensitive to the plight of the Ghanaian people and is making efforts to ameliorate them from the sufferings they are going through as a result of the increment in fuel prices.

“I am happy this government is not like their government; we are listening and we are making an attempt. We know how this country was managed under their government. As a party, the longest-serving political party is the NDC, accumulatively 28years. So, if you are complaining of whatever Ghana is, we can attribute it around 70 percent of those problems to you, that you caused it.” He remarked in an interview on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show.

However, Communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Isaac Ayemvoa dismisses Mr. Ayine’s argument; stating that the NPP must accept the reality on the ground.

For him, Ghanaians are suffering due to the imposition of taxes and the subsequent increment in petroleum products hence the need for government to save the citizens from their plight.

Mr. Ayemvoa accentuated that the increment in fuel prices is high, putting an unnecessary burden on the ordinary Ghanaian.

He thus re-echoed the call made by NDC’s communication officer, Sammy Gyamfi; suggesting to the government to scrap what the NDC label as ‘nuisance taxes’.
