A six unit classroom block for the Sagnerigu girls model primary school was commissioned on October 29, 2021, to increase access to education for girls in the Sagnerigu Municipality. The structure also has separate washrooms for teachers and pupils, a well a stocked library, a staff common room, a Headteacher’s office and a storeroom.

It will complement the Sagnerigu Girls model Junior High School which was inaugurated in 2018. The project was executed under the “improving access to quality education for the children in Ghana project”, which is implemented by ActionAid with funding from Barrowman Foundation of the United Kingdom (UK). In an address to inaugurate the project, the Interim Country Director for ActionAid, John Nkaw, said the construction of the primary school formed part of efforts to “increase access and retention of girls in particular and working with local communities towards a better future for their children”. A Subchief of Sagnerigu, Sagnerigu Tamal Na, Mohammed Fuseini, commended ActionAid and its partners for the project. He noted that, the construction of the girl’s model basic school in the Municipality, is a huge challenge thrown at parents and urged residents of the Municipality to take advantage of the school to educate their daughters. The Junior High School which was inaugurated in 2018 has already distinguished itself among basic schools in the community, scoring 100 % in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) 2021.
