29-year-old Daniel Apuyine has been physically impaired since childbirth and has been struggling to make a living with the help of his manual hand pedal tricycle.

The tricycle, according to Daniel, was donated to him 7 years ago by the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD), but it is now in bad shape and makes movement difficult for him.

The situation, he told A1 Radio’s Reporter, Moses Apiah that has been a big blow to him as he can no longer go around the neighbourhood to conduct his usual business.

“I sell liquid soap. I usually collect them on credit and after selling I will go and give the money back to the owner. My tricycle is my life because I use it to do my business, now that it is in bad shape; life is going to be too hard for me. It is the business that I used to cater for myself and other siblings. So, my only wish is for someone to come and help me get a new hand pedal tricycle”, he added.

Daniel is a native of the Tindonsobligo community, a suburb of Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region. He was born with a condition called dysarthria, a disorder that affects muscles that help in speech production. This makes him mumble and finds it difficult to maintain his body balance and posture.

He further added that he had made calls to several individuals and organisations to go to his aid, but he is yet to receive feedback.

Touching on the plight of Daniel, his grandfather, Mr Akayaa-Dongo, noted that it is a huge burden for him. According to Mr Akayaa-Dongo, his daily worries are not always about himself but his grandson.

He said, “I do not talk or think much of myself but my grandson. Since his childbirth, I have tried all that I could but things are not getting better. All the resources I have laboured for, I have used majority of them on him; like his medicine and a whole lot. This tricycle of his, I tried my best to get him one so he can be doing small, small, for us all. You know, he sells liquid soap, but the tricycle is not in good shape and I do not have money to buy it for him too.”

Daniel mentioned that the struggles and pains he confronts every day compel him to think that life is not worth living.
