The Upper East Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Dzotsi has expressed serious concerns over the seemingly lackadaisical approach residents in the Upper East Region respond to issues regarding the COVID-19 disease. He expressed surprise over the situation because the COVID-19 virus still persists albeit in a rather moderate manner.

When he spoke to Samuel Mbura on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East Show, the Regional Director of Health Services requested that all resident be reminded that the virus is still present thus the need to continue to adhere to the health and safety protocols that were instituted by government through the Ghana Health Service. “We should visit back our precautious measures and observe the COVID-19 preventive protocols involved,” he said.

He reminded residents in the region that the Vaccine is safe with moderate to no side effects. He said if up to 80 percent of the population of the Upper East Region is able to be vaccinated, it will increase herd immunity and allow for the break in transmission.

“We put in place additional intervention of vaccination that is the COVID-19 Vaccine. It is enough and safe with no risk every individual above eighteen years should go for the vaccine with the exception of pregnant women who are not eligible for the vaccine about one thousand people have been vaccinated with no side effect,” he explained.

Currently, the region has the Astrazaneca Vaccines, Modena Vaccines along with some doses of the Pfizer Vaccines. He explained that the Pfizer Vaccines will soon be deployed for administration for residents in the region.

Dr. Dzotsi reminded the public to stay away from gatherings until entirely necessary. “One should avoid social gatherings with lots of people, continue washing hands with soap under clean running water and mask up before going for any event,” he said.

The Upper East Region earlier this week recorded an additional death as a result of the COVID-19 disease. The Regional Director of Health Services insisted that the situation was under control and that the public should remain calm.
