Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has said the campuses of the Navrongo Senior High School, C.K Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences and St. John Bosco College of Education will each benefit from a 4-kilometre road construction project in the coming days.

According to the Vice President, government is committed to delivering first-class secondary and tertiary education with standardized infrastructure in an effort to achieve the primary goals of the Free Senior Higher School (FSHS) policy.

Addressing present and past students, along with staff and management of the Navrongo Senior Higher School at its 60th-anniversary, the vice president spoke highly of the efforts of the institution to foster excellent education as well as its contribution to the development of the country. The celebration was hinged on the theme “sustaining sixty years of quality education in Navrongo Senior Higher School – the role of stakeholders”.

In a bid to support the school attain even greater heights, the Vice President stated government’s commitment to uplifting the face of the school by constructing a total of 4kms of roads within the school’s compound.

He said “in honour of the 60th-anniversary of this great school, I am happy to announce that 4km of asphalt roads will be constructed on the campus of NAVASCO. But we are doing more than that. We have also agreed with the contractor that he will not only work on the NAVASCO campus, but he will also construct 4kms of asphalt on the campus of CK Tedam University, and another 4km at St John Bosco College of Education”.

The Headmistress of the Navrongo Senior Higher School Madam Mercy Babachuweh expressed gratitude to the Vice President for honouring the invitation to celebrate the occasion with them. She pleaded with government to help the school with the construction of a Girls’ Dormitory, Assembly hall, Dinning hall, and adequate staff accommodation to help improve academic performance in the institution.

She added that the school is challenged with insecurity since it has no fence wall to protect students. She called on the vice president to go to their aid in constructing a fence wall that will protect students and teachers from criminals. In his response to the plea of the headmistress, the vice president donated a cash amount of one hundred thousand cedis(Ghs100,000) to the school and promised to complete the construction of the Girls’ Dormitory.

“The President has responded to some of the specific needs of this school by initiating the construction of a 12-unit classroom block, a 12-seater toilet facility, and 2 No. 6-seater WC toilets. We will ensure that these projects are completed as soon as possible to ameliorate the problems of inadequate infrastructure the school is currently facing. We will also take steps to complete the girl’s dormitory project that has stalled, as part of our commitment to ensuring quality education,” Dr. Bawumia said.

The Vice President admonished students to take advantage of the free WIFI being provided by the government to do research rather than use it in a negative way. He charged the young learners to put up their best so as to become responsible citizens worth emulating.

Navrongo Senior Higher School was established on 30th September 1960. The celebration was supposed to be in 2020 however, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the celebration was rescheduled to this 2021.
