Gov’t embarks on 3,000 educational projects; 164 in UER – VEEP

The Vice President of Ghana Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has revealed that 710 Senior High Schools in Ghana have been connected to the internet. This means that students can now surf the internet for free using WiFi. Dr. Bawumia said the move will help students conduct proper research.

Touching on infrastructure within the Upper East Region, he noted that about 164 educational projects have been undertaken with 57% of them already completed. According to Dr. Bawumia, the NPP government is committed to delivering quality second-cycle education.

Addressing congregants at a durbar in Navrongo Senior High School on its 60th-anniversary, Dr. Bawumia indicated that quality education can only be achieved with investment in infrastructure.

He said “the goal of quality education can only be attained with appropriate investment in educational infrastructure. It is on the back of this understanding that government under the leadership of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has embarked on over 3,000 various infrastructure across the country, nearly 50% of them already completed. In the Upper East Region, about 164 of [such] educational projects have been undertaken, 57% of them already completed”.

He added that the government has invested hugely in technology. That is why free WiFi has been provided to many secondary schools in the country. “The government has commenced the provision of free Wi-Fi for senior high schools, 46 colleges of education and 13 public universities while 350,000 laptops have been provided to teachers laptops under the one teacher one laptop policy. These are part of the measures by the government to improve quality of teaching and learning in the country”.

Dr. Bawumia charged students to make good use of technology in order to excel academically.
