The Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central Isaac Adongo has described as ridiculous government’s decision to impose taxes on mobile money transactions. He said taxes are supposed to be placed on revenues earned and not business capital.

He shared this on his official Facebook page. “E-Tax on transfers is a tax on business capital. Taxes are imposed on revenue, income and profit and not capital. Killing the hen that lays the golden egg is madness,” he wrote.

The Bolgatanga Central MP has in other posts, chastised other policies government seeks to implement in the coming fiscal year. He ridiculed government’s move to create a million jobs under its YouStart project saying “a Ghc1 billion initiative to create one million jobs. One job costs Ghc1000? Ghc1000 to become an entrepreneur to earn how much? Kulikuli entrepreneurs loading” He suggested that the government’s claims to drive entrepreneurship may be an attempt to ‘scam’ Ghanaians.

Meanwhile, his colleague in Parliament, Member of Parliament for the Nabdam constituency Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane has also sent a word of caution to the public not to blame him if he stops sending them money through the mobile money platform, but rather blame what he termed as ‘Bawumianomics’.

Dr. Nawaane also took to his official Facebook wall and stated that he is able to assist his constituents who need financial support through the mobile money platform but that may soon change due to the imposition of the Electronic Transaction Levy of 1.75 percent.

He wrote on his Facebook wall, “blame Bawumianomics if I stop sending Momo to you for the payments of fees, funeral donations and other appeals for assistance. The E- levy is anti – Momo”.
