A police officer with the Upper East Regional Police Command has been accused of supposedly setting fire to a compound house and a drinking pub after a misunderstanding with a lady said to be his lover.
Narrating the issue to A1 Radio on News Link, Faustina Aboba, aunt of the lover of the police officer said the policeman became infuriated after meeting another gentleman claiming to be the ex-boyfriend of the lady in question. The police officer whose name has been given as Sergeant Saviour Senaya then approached Miss Aboba demanding that her niece handed over a mobile phone that had been given to the lady by the accused.
On the night of the same day, the police officer is said to have visited the pub of Miss Aboba under the guise of purchasing a drink but with the intention of claiming the said phone from the lady; Eunice.
Failing to retrieve the phone at the pub because of the absence of the lady, Miss Aboba explained that Sergeant Senaya went to their house, a rented apartment in a compound house, broke the windows ostensibly in an attempt to reclaim the said phone from Eunice, his lover.
The following day, Sergeant Senaya engaged the services of a carpenter to repair the damage he had caused. In the process, the police officer is said to have entered the room and picked some personal belongings of Miss Aboba and Eunice as a means to force the two to return the phone he claimed to have bought for the latter, but failed.
Miss Aboba said at this point, she, together with her brother, reported the case to the Bolgatanga Municipal Police Command but instead, Eunice was placed under arrest; a situation Miss Aboba said required that she pay 100 GHC for the release of her niece.
Subsequently, Sergeant Senaya is said to have burnt portions of the house the two lived in and later also burnt the pub where Miss Aboba worked. Miss Aboba said she then went to the Regional Police Commander and shared her concerns. She was given the assurance by the Regional Commander that the situation will be given the needed attention.
When A1 Radio contacted the Regional Police Commander DCOP Sayibu Gariba, he mentioned that the case had been brought to his attention but declined to give further details except to say that the case was under investigation.
