The Elephant is not pregnant; work hard to support the party – NPP Deputy Communication Director

Deputy National Communication Director of the governing New Patriotic Party, Dr. Richard Asante has implored members of the party to shy away from displaying paraphernalia and mounting billboards in Ashanti Region, that declare their support of any flagbearer hopeful. Dr. Asante urged the delegates to rather focus on preaching the achievements the government has chalked upon assumption of power in 2017.

He gave this appeal in an interview on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East Show ahead of the party’s Delegates Conference slated for Sunday, December 14, 2021 in Kumasi.

According to him, it would be premature for flagbearer hopefuls to begin campaigning actively and thus called on party faithful to prioritise the party’s success over individuals’ interest.

He opined that the number of flagship programmes undertaken by the governing party are so appealing that any individual the party chooses as flag bearer will get endorsement from Ghanaians, hence the need for executives and party faithful to refrain from actively campaigning for their preferred candidates at the conference.

“We want the focus to be on the conference itself. If you want to highlight anything, let it highlight the achievements of the government; what had been done by the government in terms of 1 district, 1 factory,1 constituency, 1 ambulance, 1 village, 1 dam, factories that are being built across the country, the school feeding programme, free education. Highlight some of the great achievements of the government, let the people what is being done. We do not want people to move the focus to individuals or personal focus. The moment for that will come because the party has not yet opened nominations for people to file their nominations,” he stated.

“Now the elephant is not ready to be pregnant, it becomes pregnant when there are guidelines that have been issued and people are being asked to submit their applications to wanting to contest at various levels, that period one would want to say that the elephant is then pregnant”.

The president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo recently issued a stern warning to his ministers to stop campaigning as flagbearers since the time is not yet ripe for that. The president told his appointees who campaign vigorously to relinquish their positions.

The president’s caution was corroborated by the director of Communications for NPP, Yaw Boabeng Asamoa at a press conference yesterday.

Touching on the resolve of the Economic Fighters’ League to break away from the Fix the country movement, Dr. Asante intimated that the friction between the two groups has vindicated the NPP’s claim that both groups have been funded by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
