Zuarungu shooting: RM urges public to report whereabouts of cop killers

The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has urged members of the public to be extra vigilant and furnish the police with information that will lead to the arrest of armed robbers who shot and killed two police officers at Zuarungu community in the Bolgatanga East District of the Upper East Region.

In an interview on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show, Mr. Yakubu noted that there is the need for residents of the region to do a yeoman’s service and assist the police to bring the perpetrators of the monstrous crime to book in order that they (residents) will go about their daily activities peacefully as yuletide approaches.

“I will through this media plead that anybody who has information should let the police know so that we get these criminals and put them at where they belong to so that Bolga and Upper East will be safe for our Christmas”, he stated.

Mr. Yakubu also indicated that he prays earnestly for all residents of the region to march safely through the yuletide to witness more of the developmental projects he has undertaken in the region.

“I also want to pray that everyone here will have a fantastic Christmas so that next year we will do more things to develop this region as we all desire”, he added.

Touching on the New Patriotic Party’s National Delegates C onference which kicks off on Sunday, December 19, 2021, Mr. Yakubu explained that though he would attend the programme, he is still concerned about the security of the region.

On the status regional hospital, Mr. Yakubu stated that he is liaising with the minister of health as well as the Upper East Regional Director of health to ensure work on the hospital is completed.

Meanwhile, the Upper East Regional public affairs officer of the Ghana police service, ASP David Fianko said on Thursday, December 16, 2021 disclosed that the Inspector General of police(IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare has placed a 50,000 GHC bounty on the head of the robbers. He said processes have begun to airlift the bodies of the Officer to Accra.

Constables Emmanuel Akowuah and Adams Sulley are set to have met their untimely death at the Zuarungu market square on Wednesday night.

Armed robbers, upon seeing the police officers on their patrol motorbike opened fire on them, hitting the fuel tank which exploded and burst into flames.

According to a place situational report, Adams Sulley was partially burnt by the flames.

Meanwhile the Police has said it cannot trace a Service Rfile with 20 rounds of ammunition booked by one of the Officers.
