Smock Festival held in Wa

The Rita Humanitarian Aid Foundation has successfully occasioned a durbar to celebrate smocks, their origins and rich history. The festival dubbed the Smock Festival took place in Daffiama in the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) District of the Upper West Region.
The ceremony was attended by people from all over the Upper West Region and those residing outside the region.
The Member of Parliament for Lambussie, Bright Yelviel Baligi was the Special Guest of Honour at the event. Mr. Baligi used the occasion to call on the present generation to go back into the cultural heritage of tradition and charter a path projecting the cultural legacies that seem to be slipping away from their grips.
The Upper West Region’s Council of State representative Professor Daniel Bagah, Chairman for the ceremony, urged the Foundation not to relent on their efforts in projecting the Festival. He gave the assurance that his office would support the Foundation continue on its mandate to promote culture and heritage.
The Paramount Chief of the Daffiama Traditional Area and President of the Upper West Regional House of Chiefs Lawyer Naa Dikumwin Domalee was present at the ceremony with his sub-chiefs and other dignitaries including the DCE for the Lambussie Hon. Naluri George, the principal of Wa Technical Institute Mr Saaka Adams and Rev Fr Martin Naader, rector of St Francis Xavier etc.
There was Fesitval was characterised by massive cultural dance displays coupled with performances on the talking drum.
There was a unique display of the Smock fabric which attracted several people at the events grounds. Smocks from all areas of Northern Ghana were on display.
