The Children’s Ministry of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, Sacred Heart Parish Cathedral in collaboration with the Centre for Child Development has provided hot meals for some street children within the Bolgatanga Municipality. The organisations also used the opportunity to screen the children for diseases.

Speaking at the programme held at the Coronation Health Centre, Project manager at the centre for Child Development Felix Frederick Amenga-itigo noted that, the programme was a way of meeting some of the enormous nutrition and health needs of streets children and persons who are financially incapacitated within the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.

According to Mr. Amenga-Itigo, the programme sought to consider vulnerable children. He said, “you will agree with me that, there are many children living on the streets now with various needs, ranging from homelessness, school needs, training needs and even feeding and medication and so there are varied needs that we seek to help in our little way”.

He stressed while looking at solving the needs of these children in the Municipality they have not left out the less privileged mothers who take care of these children in the streets. As such, the vulnerable women on the streets were also included in the feeding, medical screening and subsequently treated if the need be.

Meanwhile, the Coordinator for Catholic Charismatic Renewal at the Sacred Heart Parish Cathedral Jacob Alhassan who believes the initiative has the tendency to reduce the surge in armed robbery in the Municipality explained that, if these children experience love for humanity as they have been shown from the Children’s Ministry, they will grow with the mindset of humanity at heart coupled with the fear of God.

Adding that “we are doing just to let the children grow with the love of neighbour and to also let the street children feel loved”

According to the Member of the Health Team Mr. Lwanga, the services rendered included general health screening including Malaria Screening, weight, Sugar level check-up for the children and BP check-up for adults as well as sugar level, and Eye, Ear and Nose as well as Throat check-ups.
