The Assembly Member for the Duong Electoral Area in the Upper West Region Edward Kankpi has asked for support from well-meaning individuals and organisations to allow the community to complete some projects it has started.

Speaking to A1 Radio in Duong, Mr. Kankpi explained that during the rainy season, residents in part of the Duong community are unable to commute freely due to the overflow of a stream that passes through the community.

To help address that problem, the community led by the Assembly Member began the construction of 4 culverts in different parts of the community to allow the stream flow without affecting community residents when it rains. The project, due to its capital intensive nature has stalled.

Mr. Kankpi has thus appealed for support to help the community continue its development drive.

“The good people of Duong have taken a bold step in addressing an age-old problem: a stream that used to obstruct the movement of people from one section of the community to the other. This yearly challenge has been addressed through community mobilisation and self-initiative by using culverts and other building materials to fix the problem to aid the link up all sections of the community. It is significant to note that this all-important project is financed by a fund dubbed the Duong  Community Development Fund established in 2019. Each community member contributes something little or small towards the community development yearly,” he explained.

The Assembly Member continued to say that “as a community which is passionate about its own development through self-funding and support from its development partners including individuals, organizations and government, we are, therefore, appealing for more funding and support to enable us to do more of such to enhance the socio-economic development of Duong, not just Duong only but the Nadowli-Kaleo District and Ghana at large”.
