National Treasurer for opposition New Patriotic Party, Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah has downplayed  reports of him been invited by the Criminal Investigation Department of Ghana police in relation to corruption allegations leveled against the party’s national executives.

According to him, he has not been formally served with a letter by the police in relation to the alleged corruption allegations.

“I have not been served with any letter by the police as i speak,” he told Accra based Citi FM.

He mentioned that the country is a democratic country and that things should be done right because gone were the days when people were invited or sacked from their offices on national radio.

“The police should remember that we are not in the revolutionary era where they can invite people to their office on air. Those days are dead and gone and we do not need to revisit it.”

Mr. Abankwa explained that even if the police should write formally to him, he will not honor their call because he works for an institution and it is expected that the institution will be petitioned not him.

Mr. Abankwa and some other top party officials have been fingered in squandering monies the party raised during its congress and during the Talensi by-elections from the party’s coffers.

The opposition NPP has resurfaced with yet another round of party in-fighting as top party officials trade counter-accusations of mismanagement of party cash.

A statement from the office of the National Chairman appears to have blown out the internal financial matters into a renewed media war among factions in the party with specifications of how much the party has in its coffers and how much was spent during the by-election in Talensi in the upper east region.

Paul Afoko in his statement is warning punitive action will be taken against the rank and file of the party found to have embezzled funds. The police is said to commence investigations into the matter after it received a complaint from a yet to be identified member of the party.
