The Upper East Regional Veterinary Service Department has banned the movement of poultry and poultry products in and around Zaare, a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality.
In a statement signed by the Regional Veterinary Officer Henry Nii Ayi Anang, the decision was taken after a confirmation of an outbreak of Avian Influenza Subtype H5 in a farm at Zaare in the Bolgatanga Municipality.
The statement urged all staff of the veterinary services in the region to be on high alert to prevent the spread of the disease.
“Following the confirmed outbreak of the Avian Influenza Subtype H5 in a farm at Zaare in the Bolgatanga Municipality, the Regional Directorate of the Veterinary services has hereby placed a ban on movement of poultry and poultry products in and out of Zaare in the Bolgatanga Municipality, This action is being taken in order to protect the poultry industry in the upper east region”. the statement said.
