The Upper East Regional Department of Agriculture has said one of the government’s flagship agricultural programmes, Rearing for Foods and Jobs, is progressing steadily. So far, some 21,000 keets have been supplied to 500 farmers in 10 Districts and Municipalities in the region.
This came to light when the Regional Director at the Department of Agriculture, Francis Ennor spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East.
Mr. Ennor said the programme began in some 5 districts but was later extended to cover another five districts. 21,000 8-week-old keet were distributed to the farmers.
“In the region, we are fortunate to be making some headway. Last two years, some five districts were enrolled and subsequently another 5 districts were enrolled. It is about sheep goats and guinea fowls. Before and after Christmas, 21,000 keets have been delivered. These people are going to brood it then we give it to the local farmers,” he explained
For the ruminants, “we were expecting some at the end of last year, unfortunately, we did not get them. As we have started the year, it would be distributed to the districts very soon. So far, 3,000 ruminants have been given out. Some districts have recovered some and given same to other farmers”.
