Ranking Member on Parliamentary Select Committee on Education and Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi North, Peter Nortsu has indicated that Committee has finished its work on the Students Loan Trust Amendment Bill. The Committee is expected to, in the coming days, forward same to the plenary for the amendments to be carried.

It would be recalled that while seeking reelection in 2020, one of the major promises of the NPP was to grant loans to students without the use of guarantors.

The policy, according to the NPP, will eliminate the “huge obstacle to the financing of tertiary education,” and will change the phase of tertiary education.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, announced in August 2020 in Cape Coast during the manifesto launch of the NPP.

Mr. Norstu, while speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, said “government wants to remove the guarantors and we have worked on it. We now want to forward it to the plenary for the amendment to be carried. That is what we are doing now”.
