Lack of continuity affecting digitalization drive – CEO of Norgence

The potential benefits of digitalization cannot be measured. This is why successive governments have at different levels, committed various resources to develop Ghana’s digital space. This is according to Albert Naa, an IT specialist and the CEO of Norgence in the Upper East Region. Norgence is a tech-based organisation that runs uns software services, training, networking and internet solutions.

Mr. Naa who spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East said it is in Ghana’s interest to continue to invest in its digitalization agenda. While commending government for the steps taken so far, Mr. Naa said “there are certain things that the government always overlooks”.

“It is about education. The citizens are not aware enough. This [education] has to start from basic school so that the person grow up understanding and even suggesting contributing positively to how this thing is supposed to operate”.

“Today when you call someone who does not understand IT that much to go and queue to do this, and it will bring that and that, the person thinks you are speaking about something that will be in heaven or something and not here. They do not get it that much,” he said.

Mr. Naa chastised successive governments for the lack of continuity. “I have seen and observed, with keen interest, that over the years, governments have made efforts but the lack of continuity is affecting the process so much. We should have been long gone past this stage. This is not the time Ghana should be talking about digitalization. We should be living in it. We should be benefiting from it. We should have been in the 4th or 5th stage of our digitalization agenda”.

“Everybody comes and wants to do it in their own way. We are losing money [as a result]. Secondly, we are not being persistent with the issues. Whatever agenda was there in 1992, we did not continue with it. We always build up to a certain point and then leave it,” he said worryingly.

  1. What Mr. Naa is saying is true, some people are ignorant even to the extent that the Ghana card registration they say it’s not important so why should they waste their time in queue for nothing. We as Ghanian should educate each other on this digitalization on going.
