It Appears the conversation surrounding the ‘controversial’ Electronic Transaction Levy better known as E – Levy would not end soon as government continues with its town hall meetings to educate people on the Levy. While the town halls are ongoing, Ghanaians continue to share varied opinions on the tax.

The Member of Parliament for Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) in the Upper West Region, Dr. Sebastian Sandaare said it should be apparent to the government that Ghanaians are totally opposed to the idea of the E-levy. The Bill which will give room for the implementation of the E-levy is yet to be passed in Parliament.

Dr. Sandaare explained there are other ways government could generate revenue without having to impose on Ghanaians E-LEVY.

Speaking on Day Break Upper East on A1 Radio Dr. Sandare explained that his constituents are largely against the introduction of the E-Levy and therefore it will be right if Government listens to the plight of Ghanaians, as he notes that “the voice of the people is paramount and therefore must be heard”.

According to the Lawmaker, Ghanaians have said that the introduction of the E-levy “at least for now is not good” and it will be right for the government to listen to Ghanaians and either suspend or better still withdraw the bill from parliament.

He explained that “for me, the most important voice is the voice of the people, the voice of Ghanaians who have also spoken that, the E- Levy is something that is not good for Ghanaians at least for now and therefore Ghanaians think that, why don’t we suspend or cancel it look at other ways of raising revenue?”.

He further stressed that the happenings in parliament surrounding the passage of the E-Levy Bill is a reflection of how Ghanaians dislike the Bill.
