President Buhari Reaffirms Commitment to Fight Corruption, Boko Haram

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, arrived in Accra on Monday for a day’s working visit to the country. It was his first visit to the country after winning the unprecedented March 28 presidential election in Africa’s most populous and industrious country.

The Nigerian leader was received at the Golden Jubilee Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport by President John Dramani Mahama. Ghana and Nigeria have agreed to enhance Mutual Corporation in the fight against corruption by encouraging healthy collaboration between anti-graft institutions in the two countries.

President John Mahama disclosed this to the media in Accra on Monday after a closed door meeting with the Nigerian president.

President Muhumadu Buhari is waging war against corruption in Nigeria.

During the Nigeria 2015 election, President Mahama played a very vital role as the ECOWAS Chairman at the time in bringing peace and stability ahead of the elections.

President Mahama met with key stakeholders who matter during the elections to discuss issues arising out of the ECOWAS monitoring group’s reports.

He had fruitful meetings with then President Goodluck Jonathan, then Mr. Buhari, and the then INEC Chairman and Heads of the Africa Union and Commonwealth Observer groups, a move that went a long way to ensure the elections were held in a free, fair and transparent environment. After the successful Nigerian 2015 election, President Mahama was also among the first world leaders to congratulate Mr. Buhari on his victory in the elections.

During President Buhari’s   visit to the Ghana High Commission Onyasia Crescent at Roman Ridge, he received a very warm welcome by High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Ademola Oluseyi Onafowokan and hundreds of Nigerians living in Ghana.

Speaking to Nigerians at the embassy, he said a lot of progress is been made by his government to eliminate the activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria which have claim thousands of innocent lives. However, Nigerians living in Ghana were overwhelmed after President Muhammadu Buhari   promised to establish a consular service office unit in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital to enable those leaving around to access their traveling documents instead of traveling far to Accra the country’s capital.

The President also expressed satisfaction for the co-operation he had received from Nigerians in the diaspora since his assumption in office. He used the opportunity to call on Nigerians across the globe to exercise patience for his government as he tackles the outrageous corruption that has kept Nigerians in their current difficult condition and announced that he is establishing special courts to try corruption-related cases in the country.
