Aspiring Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga central constituency lawyer Abraham Amaliba has filed his parliamentary nomination forms to contest in the November 7 parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress.

Hundreds of party supporters clouded in party colours thronged the constituency office of the party in Bolgatanga Tuesday to show support to the aspirant. A float through the principal streets of Bolgatanga lasted for over an hour causing vehicular and human traffic in some parts of the regional capital.

Speaking at the party office shortly before submitting his forms, Mr. Amaliba said his mission at the party office is to return the nomination forms to the party office as constitutionally demanded.

“I have been able to go round the branches and I have obtained the required signatures. My understanding is that I should add my curriculum vitae to the forms and present them. Also included are my pictures and am told that these pictures are what will be used for the elections. I have also brought a proof of my pay in slip to show that I have actually paid and coming to pay my filing fees” he said.

Lawyer Amaliba’s filing of nomination forms comes four days after the incumbent MP of the area Hon. Akolbire Opam Brown also filed to enter the race. Two other parliamentary aspirants are expected to file their forms before the close of nominations on September 10.

The Bolgatanga central constituency secretary of the NDC Abdallah Salifu Jonathan certified the forms after a perusal and added that filing of the nomination forms is the second stage of the entire exercise which comes in four stages. He explained that the third stage of this all important exercise will be the vetting of aspirants on a date yet to be scheduled after the closure of nominations while the fourth stage will be the elections.

He further prevailed on all individuals in the ace to be mindful that the contest is purely an internal party contest and hence it should be conducted in a decorous manner and completely devoid of insults and character assassination.

“We want to believe that after the contest, whoever emerges as the winner, we shall all including the defeated aspirants back him/her to win the main seat for us. We have to do our possible best to support everybody” he added.
