Member of the National Democratic Congress legal team and aspiring Member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga central constituency has described as unfortunate attempts by his contenders and some members of the party to discredit him by referring to him as a “Stranger.”
The upcoming internal party contest of the NDC is beginning to wash ashore many innuendos and distasteful attempts by some aspirants and party members to run down the personality of others in order to stagnate their chances of winning in the primaries.
Many members of the party including executives, members of the communication team and former municipal chief executives have called on aspirants to eschew utterances that carry tribalistic tendencies as it may likely cause irreparable damages to the party during and after the primaries.
A classical example of this canker that is beginning to show its ugly head in the NDC as it prepares to go into the parliamentary primaries in the Bolgatanga central constituency is the purported description of Lawyer Abraham Amaliba as a non-indigen. This development has sent signals of worry to the rank and file of the party in the Bolgatanga central constituency with many calling for its immediate seizure.
Though a native of Nakolo in the Kasena Nankana district of the upper east region, lawyer Abraham in an interview with A1 Radio’s Azongo Albert said his decision to contest in the Bolgatanga central constituency is because he was born and bred in Bolgatanga.
“I can contest in three (3) constituencies in Ghana and that is Bolgatanga, Adenta and Navrongo. But I chose to contest for the Bolgatanga central seat because I was born, bred and buttered in Bolgatanga. In fact I trace my umbilical cord to Bolgatanga. This is my birth place. I grew up here, schooled here, worked here and I used to play on the veranda of the house currently housing the NDC constituency office. So those who say what they are saying are going against the principles and values of the NDC because our party frowns on this kind of things” he said
Addressing a crowd of supporters at the constituency office of the party in Bolgatanga Tuesday lawyer Abraham Amaliba appealed to his supporters and all members of the NDC to avoid politics of insults in the run up to the parliamentary primaries. According to him, the contest is an internal party contest and hence resulting to insults will afford opposition parties the opportunity to discredit the NDC in moving forward to the 2016 elections.
“In my rounds I hear people saying Amaliba is a good candidate but he doesn’t come from here. I know you know that our party does not condone this kind of politics. When the founder of our party decided to contest for election in 1992 it was said he isn’t a Ghanaian. What about Obama who is today the president of America. Does he come from America? Does Hon. Muntaka come from Kumasi? For the fact that I have just submitted my forms today means development has just began for Bolgatanga constituency” he told the charged crowd.
Lawyer Amaliba is facing a stiff competition from incumbent MP Hon. Akolbire Opam Brown and financial analyst Isaac Adongo.
