The ‘hijacking’ of nomination forms in parts of the country as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) goes on its internal reorganisation processes has been described as shameful and not in tandem with the basic tenets of democracy; a strong political system of leadership within the party.

It would be recalled that there were reports of agitations by some persons who were interested in picking nomination forms from the party’s Constituency Offices in Asante Akim, Manhyia and the Talensi District.

Making comments on the back of the recent developments on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, the former Mayor of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly and the General Secretary Hopeful, Musah Superior castigated the current leadership of the party for failing to show direct leadership and putting an end to the fracas that could mar the processes that have begun.

“This should not be tolerated by the party. A party that is really looking forward to securing another mandate to look after our country. These internal malpractices have become widespread in the last few days”.

“I am totally ashamed of myself. I think that it should not be so. Our party is a decent party and we should have open, decorum, decent, transparent and a credible contest to choose especially, the base leaders of our country. The people who are mobilizing the votes and looking after our party at the grassroots level,” he said.

He continued to say that “the General Secretary of the Party would have to take charge. He has got to issue a directive The General Secretary of the Party has to issue a public directive and say that any party member keeping or hijacking nomination forms, the person would be held responsible. That is the way leadership is demonstrated in times of crises”.

Musah Superior insisted that the wording of the directive must be very stern, active and forceful to make sure that the right things are done for the betterment of the party

He charged the General Secretary to state clearly in the directive that “nomination forms to be made available for anybody who is interested in contesting the election and this matter would be closed. The moment such a directive comes from the office of the General Secretary, it means that anybody who is in this business of machinations, the person would have to discontinue it”.
