A Communicator with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region, Isaac Ayenvoa popularly known as ‘Understanding’, has said the controversial electronic transaction levy should not be a ‘do or die’ affair for the government.
Speaking to the host of Critical Issues Mark Smith on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayenvoa expressed the view that the government has several options to sustain the Ghanaian economy as well as develop the country without passing E-levy, which he believes will affect Ghanaians.
According to him, the government is in a position to cut down government expenditures and fix the leakages in all public departments in order to have the needed development.
“My thinking is that, let them stop all this e-levy thing and clean the mess at the Flag Star House and reduce the expenditure and let us go on. Without E-levy, we can still live in this country, so it should not be a do or die affair” He said
According to the government if the electronic transaction levy is passed by Parliament it will help the government increase Ghana’s tax-to-GDP ratio from approximately 12.2% in 2020 to 20% by 2024.
But this has since been met with resistance from opposition political parties and some Ghanaians.
