The District Chief Executive for Bolgatanga East, David Amoah has expressed with great worry the increasing cases of teenage pregnancies in the area.
The DCE has indicated that statistics from the Ghana Health Service and Ghana Education Service have shown that the sad incident is taking lead amongst pupils in the district.
He called on parents, teachers and stakeholders in adolescent health to put urgent measures to curb the canker.
He made the call at the just ended 65th Independence Day Celebration held in the district.
Announcing some of the steps to address the situation, Mr Amoah noted that his outfit will soon organize a stakeholder engagement to brainstorm on the possible ways to curb the canker.
“We need to rise to the challenge and work collectively to address it. The rate of teenage pregnancy is putting us in a bad light.”
He also admonished teachers and guardians to sensitize young people to stay away from unprotected copulation and other vices while they collectively chart a course to end teenage pregnancy.
He stressed, “I wish to assure you that management is doing everything possible to lead in the fight as planned. I equally appeal to teachers to join in admonishing our young ones as you have always been doing to desist from unprotected copulation and other vices which are likely to jeopardise their future.”
