The Upper East Regional Minister Stephen Yakubu has sought to clarify the source of the Ghc105,000.00 donation made towards the building of the National Cathedral.

According to the minister the donation was made based on individual and institutional contributions and could not have been used for any purpose other than the cathedral.

“We have auditors who can audit to confirm. It is not coming from the RCC or government money. It’s individual and institutional contributions and we should be proud of it”, Mr Yakubu added.

Mr Yakubu made the clarification on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East show, in response to public backlash against the donation.

The Minister noted again that, the people of the region should be proud that as a region they have also made effort regarding the building of the National Cathedral.

He said, “I want people to stop the politicking and appreciate the fact that as a region we also made efforts. No matter what, our problems will continue to be there, we can’t finish solving problems of furniture and infrastructure deficits. But that can’t also stop us from contributing our quota to national discourse.”

He however encouraged Ghanaians to see the building of the Cathedral as a national thing and contribute towards that discourse.
