Disregard revised prices for eggs – Poultry Farmers Association

The Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers has asked the public to disregard the purported increases in the prices of eggs on the market. The Association said the revised prices were not sanctioned by it and encouraged patrons of the products not to pay the reviewed prices.

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, the Northern Regional Chairman of the Association of Poultry Farmers, George Dasseh explained that while the Association is in talks with stakeholders in the poultry value chain including the Eggs Sellers Association, no decision had been arrived at.

He said it was unfortunate that some farmers have taken it upon themselves to advertise new prices, with the logos and letterhead of the Association without recourse to leadership.

He warned that the consequences of the unsanctioned prices increment could have devastating effects on the already frail business of the poultry farmers.

“I want the public to know that that price list that is going around is not from the official sources. However, plans are underway to increase prices because of the high costs of inputs. Discussions are still ongoing. You cannot just get up and increase prices without consulting or discussing it with your major stakeholders, that is the egg sellers”.

“In fact, we made a mistake last year and a lot of farmers had to throw their eggs away because the egg sellers were saying they cannot buy at the prices we gave them. So the farmers kept them and they were going bad. We said we were not going to make such a mistake”.

“What I know and want to public to know is that we are still discussing with the major stakeholders after which we would probably have a press conference to announce the official prices,” he said.
