Emmanuel Wullingdool, an Agriculture Consultant who doubles as the Executive Director for the Centre for Women and Nutrition (CWAN) has expressed strong disappointment about recent comments by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.

Mr. Wullingdool explained that the completion of 80 one thousand metric tonne capacity warehouses dotted across the country while commendable, is too little too late.

80,000 metric tonne capacity storage setup by MOFA across the country is expected to help address the Post-Harvest Losses (PHL). This is according to the Minister for Food and Agriculture. Dr. Akoto in a recent interview stated the completion of the warehouses shows government commitment towards addressing PHL.

In a sharp rebuttal, the Agric Consultant questioned why it has had to take more than 5 years for warehouses to be completed.

Mr. Wullingdool also raised concerns about the availability of storage facilities and processing facilities for perishable products like fruits and vegetables.

He expressed these concerns when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East.

“One thing that could have come in strongly to fill in the gap could be the element of value addition or processing. Then, you can connect to the other policies that are in place. Unfortunately, we are yet to see the full realization of some of such,” he said.
