A contestant in the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the National Democratic Congress, Thomas A. Assibi says he is the change that the people of Garu in the Upper East Region needs.

According to him, the people of Garu need a change to propel the development of the constituency which has over the years been sluggish as compared to other constituencies in the Upper East Region.

Hon. Thomas A. Assibi was speaking to Azongo Albert on A1 Radio’s Flagship program, Day Break Upper East.

He noted that, the NDC in Garu has been divided over the years because individuals who oppose what the incumbent Member of Parliament does are either blacklisted or sidelined and that has resulted in many supporters defecting to other political parties.

“Over the years, people who have opposed the incumbent Member of Parliament have been sidelined and this has resulted in most party members defecting to other political parties. This has reflected in the dwindling numbers in votes for the parliamentary candidate during elections. I am here to unite the people and I represent the change they have always yearned for,” he said.

Hon. Thomas A. Assibi opined that the party risk losing the seat if a visionary person is not selected to represent their party in next year’s elections.

He mentioned that his focus is not on wining power and neglecting the people because he believes in human development and capacity building.

He explained that over the years, political leaders have always fished for the people rather than teaching them how to fish for themselves.

“I believe in developing the human resources because that will put food on the table. Over the years, politicians have always given money to the people rather than develop the people to be able to fend for themselves. When you are able to help people by training them and providing jobs for the people, they intend help their people and that will develop the area and that is what I stand for.”

He noted that the people especially the youth do not need monies they will be spending for just a day but rather direction to be able to better themselves in any field they find themselves.

He impressed on party faithful’s to come out in their numbers to vote for individuals who have helped them even when they were not occupying political positions because they are those who have them at heart.

The ruling National Democratic Congress will go to the polls on November 7 to elect parliamentary candidates who will represent the party in next year’s general election.
