David Asante, Convener for pressure group, let my vote count, has said the group is set to organise another demonstration on the 22nd of September to call home the need for a new voters’ register.

The earlier demonstration of the pressure group, let my vote count, was marred by clashes with personnel of the Ghana police on Wednesday 16th September after some members veered off the specified route for the demonstration.

But speaking to Accra-based TV3, convener for the pressure group, David Asante disclosed that the group had written to the police to alert them of their intentions of demonstrating on September 22nd and their subsequent presentation of their petition to the Electoral Commission.

David explained that the brutalities they were subjected to are being put together so their lawyers will test the law in the days to come. He condemned the act of brutality on the part of the police saying “this was preposterous, is this proper policing? Individuals who have been charged with the duty of protecting us subject us to such beatings.”

He questioned whether the police had set themselves above the law hence curtailing democracy and rule of law. He maintained that regardless of the unprofessionalism displayed by the police on the day, there were some policemen who distinguished themselves and the group has set out to bring such unprofessional security officers to book.
