To enhance development at the Municipal or District level, administrators of the various assemblies have had to come up with ingenious ways of seeking funds and partnerships. This is because the District Assembly’s Common Fund (DACF) while inadequate is also always in arrears.
The disbursement of the DACF has become increasingly difficult to manage as the country continues to be in the economic puddle caused by the global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This came to light when the MCE for the Kassena Nankana Municipality, Joseph Adongo spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.
“Even if they keep giving us every quarter, it can never be enough,” he said.
Mr. Adongo addressing the question as to how much the Assembly is owed with regard to the DACF said “I know we have taken the fourth quarter, it is this first quarter of this year that we have not taken”.
The MCE downplayed suggestions from the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Stephen Tangombu Chiragia that the DACF is in arrears of more than two quarters, thus making it difficult for the Assembly to further its development agenda.
Despite the limitations presented by the erratic disbursement of the DACF, Mr Adongo said he is committed to developing the area.
