The Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency in the Upper East Region, Abdulai Abanga has offered Ghc 110, 000 to support 95 tertiary students in the area.

The initiative according to the MP, forms part of the “Binduri Must Develop” agenda, aimed at strengthening and developing the human capacity in the area.

Speaking on the Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio, the MP who doubles as the Deputy Works and Housing Minister, noted that “I have spent a total amount of one hundred and ten thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 110,000) to support 95 students pursuing various programmes of study in tertiary institutions across the country. This is geared towards strengthening the human resources of my constituents to enable them to contribute meaningfully to community and national development.”

He stressed that the package represented the first batch of beneficiaries, “with many others expected to benefit from similar packages in the coming days. This scheme is open to all Binduri constituents across the political range with special attention to females, people with disabilities, and students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programmes.”

He added that the initiative also found part of a dream come true as improving the human capacity of his constituents was one of the core mandates that drove him to politics.

“I am happy to note that a good number of the students will be pursuing programmes in Medicine, Pharmacy, and Engineering among others. Education represents the single most important investment a nation can make to transform the lives of people to ensure equitable and sustainable development.”

He however called on stakeholders especially traditional authorities to support the agenda to realize growth in the area.

“I now take this opportunity to congratulate all the beneficiaries, and to wish them well in their academic journey. I urge all of you to dedicate yourselves to the reason you are in school; study, study and study! I am optimistic you will all graduate with honours. Go ahead and make yourselves, your families and Binduri proud.”
