Convener for Concerned Youth of Talensi, George Ayamboya has asked for an apology from the District Chief Executive of the area for appointing individuals to the assembly without due consultation with the party hierarchy in the district.
Mr. George Ayamboya and members of the Concerned Youth of Talensi placed an injunction on the inauguration of newly elected assemblymen/women because they were dissatisfied with the Assembly especially the District Chief Executive’s decision to make the 30% appointment without doing a broad consultation with various stakeholders including leading members of the National Democratic Congress in the district to get the best materials for the district.
Speaking to A1 radio’s Azongo Albert on the station’s flagship program, Day Break Upper East, convener for the group, George Ayamboya said if the district assembly which is an institution of Government and is expected to uphold the rule of law and ensure that the proper thing is done fails to do that, then it leaves much to be desired of the Assembly.
“I was surprised when the Assembly boycotted the court injunction and went ahead to hold the inauguration. If a district assembly, an institution to uphold the laws in the country fails to do so, then it leaves much to be desired.”
Mr. Ayamboya was of the view that for the good of the Talensi district, the DCE, Edward Awenori should have heeded to the injunction in order to have a rethink of the appointments made for the district.
He insisted that their call is not for the removal of any of the appointed members but rather for the inclusion of professionals whose expertise will be beneficial to the Assembly. He noted that the Assembly lacks various professionals including lawyers and engineers whose inclusion to the assembly would have spearheaded the development of Talensi.
Mr. Ayamboya said he expects the DCE to accept he has flawed and apologize to all stakeholders because the group (Concerned Youth of Talensi) hold no grudge against him but are interested in the development of the district.
