A coalition of youth groups of the New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region has congratulated the National Executive Committee for suspending the party’s chairman, Paul Afoko.

The youth groups include Atlantic Base, Zongo Youth, Holland Base, Dazota and Progressive Youth Alliance.

In a press statement, the groups lauded the decision to suspend the National Chairman because they believe it is in the good of the party and also to sustain peace for the common purpose of victory in the 2016 general election.

The statement mentioned that although the youth groups were elated by his (Paul Afoko) election by the National Delegates to lead the party as chairman, they were taken aback when the former Chairman started his reign with a divisive inclination, citing the suspension of Hon. Opare Hammond and Perry Okudzeto as instances of divisiveness in his reign as Chairman of the party.

The statement further indicated that Paul Afoko has on several occasions deliberately created controversy in the party hence thwarting the effort whenever there are signs of progress being made by the NPP flag bearer and Running mate.

The group bemoaned the unpopularity of the party under the chairmanship of Paul Afoko because according to them, under his watch, the party has witnessed several instances of chaos at the party’s headquarters.

The statement however advised the embattled party chairman to resort to party internal structures to seek redress if he feels dissatisfied with the party’s decision to suspend him.
