Non-payment of bills by customers is our biggest challenge in Upper East Region – GWCL

Upper East Regional Commercial Manager of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Mohammed Bashiru has mentioned non-payment of bills by customers as the biggest challenge facing the company.

“Our biggest challenge has to do with bill payment because in our own small way we try to ensure that we supply water to the customers but we have to chase them to collect our money,” Mr. Bashiru said on A1Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

He said it is the responsibility of GWCL to supply water to their customers and the customers are expected to also pay when the water is supplied.

“We leverage on technology to make it easy for our customers to make payment through the momo, interbank transfers just to mention but a few. But I tell you that sometimes we have to chase our customers in their various homes to be able to get these payments done.”

“Another one that sometimes worries me is like I mentioned we have the capacity to supply more water but a customer will come, go do the assessment and is impossible for him to be connected because is far from the main line. I would have wished that I can hook as many customers onto our system as we can because we have the capacity just looking at the figures that we have mentioned,” Mr. Bashiru added.
