Chairman of the New Patriotic Party in the Upper East Region, Lawyer Anthony Namoo has schooled members of the communication team on their role as they resume duty after a sit-down strike.
The communicators upon their return demanded that media houses, especially radio stations engage only the over 30 individuals in neglect of some party faithful who took over the realm of affairs to defend the party and government while they were away.
“The team would like to re-assure the media that the defective communication that they witnessed in our absence due to the “so-called make-shift” recruitment that debased their programmes would come to an end with immediate effect.”
“By issuing this statement, we urge our respected media outlets to accept and invite our core communication team members whose names were captured in our previous petition to the national Communication Directorate”, the communicators stated in a letter copied to A1 Radio.
But the NPP regional chairman disagreed with their suggestion.
According to lawyer Namoo, the prerogative right lies with the regional director of communication to assign communicators for radio discussion and nobody else.
“The party has a constitution and after they called off the strike, first, they need to report themselves to the regional communication officer. So, it is only the regional communication officer that has the mandate to assign communicators.”
“They can’t call off the strike with a directive as to how communication should be done. The communication team doesn’t have that right as to who represents the party and I know you the media will not agree to their proposal. As to how we can get someone to represent the party on A1 Radio’s Zina Yela program, it is the responsibility of the communication officer but not the communicators.”
Lawyer Anthony was speaking on A1 Radio’s Zina Yela program hosted by Joshua Asaah in response to the letter by the communicators.
The chairman revealed that even before the strike, some party members had shown interest to communicate for the party, and therefore, “the strike gave an opportunity for others to communicate for the party.”
While welcoming the communicators back, he said the communicators should stop blowing their own trumpet but allow the public to make a judgment about whether the communication was ineffective during the period of the strike.
