Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East Constituency and Deputy Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine has vowed to resign his position as Member of Parliament if his contender Timothy Azaa Ayamga beats him in the parliamentary primaries in Zuarungu central.
Dr. Dominic Ayine is being challenged in the upcoming parliamentary primaries by two other individuals namely Lance Adoguba and Timothy Azaa Ayamga. In what he has described as “politics of pettiness” employed by his contenders, the deputy attorney general has expressed a strong conviction of winning the primaries due to his track records.
In an interview with Azongo Albert on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East on Wednesday, Dr. Ayine emphatically stated that he will resign as MP of the area and cause a by-election if his closest contender Timothy Azaa Ayamga wins in Zuarungu central on Saturday.
“Timothy was on air yesterday saying that he will win in Zuarungu central. If he wins in Zuarungu central, am promising him that I will resign as MP and cause a by election so that he can win and become MP even before 2016. Tell him and put this on record that I will step aside as MP if he (Timothy) wins in Zuarungu central” he stressed.
The Deputy Attorney general fumed over campaign messages he says are propagated to attack and discredit his personality. According to him, the claims that he is flaunting his wealth and using money to make him win the primaries are derogatory and unfounded. He added that it is his track records chalked since his election as first MP for the area that will win him the bid on Saturday.
“Am sure you have heard some of the negative campaigns going on. It’s basically to tell lies and to insult. He (Timothy) doesn’t do it directly but he gets some of his campaign team members to say a lot of negative things about me and that is unfortunate because I believe in the politics of integrity. As I speak here, am deputy attorney general and my reputation in Accra is that I am one politician who doesn’t take nonsense and I don’t take bribes. For Timothy to go about saying that I give contracts to my party chairman and take ten percent is really very insulting” he said.
He touted his track records since his assumption as MP which included Schools, boreholes, construction of a library which is underway and an ultra-modern edifice which will serve as a party office.
