Rex Asanga, MCE for the Bolgatanga Municipality has given reasons for the non-collection of refuse in the municipality two weeks ago. Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, the MCE stated that the non-collection of the refuse was because the Chief of Sherigu stopped them from depositing the refuse at the usual dump site.

“… of late what has happened is that we had problems, difficulties with the site at Sherigu where normally, we dump the refuse. We had some issues and the chief stopped us from dumping refuse. It has been for two weeks. So, for the past two weeks, no truck has been able to, no truck has been able to lift any refuse.”

“So, if people have been seeing so much refuse in town, it’s the reason. Both the assembly and Zoomlion were not allowed to go to Sherigu to dump refuse because of some issues that we had.”

While the MCE did not talk about the what the challenges were, he said the issues they had with the Chief of Shirigu have been resolved and refuse trucks of the assembly and Zoomlion have resumed the collection and dumping of refuse at the site. He assured the general public that the refuse that piled up in the township, as a result, will be cleaned up as soon as possible.

“They have been resolved now and then we are allowed. It was only on Monday that the assembly was allowed to get back to the dumping site. So, we hope within the week to clean up very fast, whatever that has been built up.”
