Residents are building with impunity in Tindonmolgo – Assembly Member expresses worry

Emmanuel Nsobila Ayamga, an assemblyman for the Tindonmolgo-Pobaga electoral constituency, is concerned about the haphazard construction that is taking place within the electoral area. He claimed that the circumstance makes road expansion challenging.

He said this when he spoke to Mark Kwasi Ahumah Smith on the Day Break Upper East Show today, Monday, September 26, 2022.

“Talking about road expansion, it has not been easy. I have made efforts to get the attention of the Assembly to come and then open up roads. People build with impunity. For whatever reason, no one can tell. For most of them, once they are able to pay for the land, they do not take the pain to follow the necessary steps to acquire the needed documents before they start building,” he said.

In his discussions with the Assembly, Mr. Ayamga claimed that it became apparent that there had been fierce opposition from members of the community since an attempt to open and reshape the roads would require the demolition of some structures.

The assemblyman continued by stating that he had been successful in winning the support of the local youth for initiatives that would guarantee the expansion of the roads; as a result, future attempts by the assembly to demolish buildings in order to expand and reshape the roads would not encounter the same resistance.

“I am getting positive responses from the youth. I am fully convinced that as and when I am able to get a grader to come, I know the youth would rally behind me and then we would move from area to area. Wherever a road should pass, it would take its course,” he said.

In areas where there’s yet to be extensive development, Mr. Ayamga envisions a properly planned neighbourhood.

“In areas that are yet to be developed, especially when you are coming towards Dorongo, it is not much developed so I am looking at it in a way that when I am able to get the machine [grader], that is where I will start with. We will open up the roads and move close to estates. Around the area, a lot of work needs to be done there.”
