The Upper West Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) caucus in Parliament is calling on the Ghana health service to, as a matter of urgency, review the process leading to the appointment of the District Health Directors.

The caucus alleged that the Ghana Health Service (GHS) sidelined indigenes of the Upper West Region in its recruitment of District Health Directors. The group said out of the 71 vacant positions with 116 applicants, no one from the Region was selected, although the applicant with the highest score in the exams conducted emerged from the Upper West region.

Speaking to A1 Radio’s Reporter’s visit show on the matter, the Secretary of the Upper West Regional NDC Caucus in Parliament, Dr. Sebastian Sandaare said failure of the Ghana Health Service to review the process would lead to dire consequences.

According to Dr. Sandaare, there wasn’t fairness and justice in the process.

The Daffiama-Bussie-Issa (DBI) Constituency Member of Parliament, Dr. Sebastian the situation has emerged because of political interference. He said failure to address the situation will lead the Caucus to summon the Council of the Ghana Health Service before Parliament to answer questions.

“We hope that our intervention with the press conference will yield positive results where they will be review in the appointment [of the districts health directors] process. And we hope that they will be fairness and justice to the people of the Upper West. If that fail, the next level would be that, the council of the Ghana health service will have to appear before Parliament.”

“I will take the lead to ensure that they come to Parliament and answer to why the people of the Upper West region does not deserve appointment as district directors of health, when we are all Ghanaians and equal before the laws.”

“We will ensure transparency. We would demand the interview results and all the processes they should bring the results and show as that yes indeed the eight candidates from the upper west have fail and did not deserve to be district directors of health.”

The Caucus Secretary Dr. Sandaare said, evidence available to them is clear that there’s no way all eight candidates from the region failed to meet all the requirements for the appointment. He alleged that the situation has only arisen because the Upper West Region voted massively for the NDC.
