“Often, branch executives would feel that when they support the party and the party comes to power, they do all the dirty work. They run around, they go to the communities, they engage relatives and all that. All these things play in politics. When you do this, you are putting your integrity on the line but when the party comes to power, certain opportunities are given to people who have cordial relationships with leadership in the party. They [party faithful] feel it is not fair. This is one aspect that if you are not strong enough to stand on the tenets and the philosophy of the party, you cannot be able to change it.”
Augustine Guure, a Talensi Constituency Secretary hopeful said this when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.
He is one of 5 people who have put their names forward for delegates to consider as the NDC’s reorganisation processes continue.
Ensuring that people are rewarded for the work they do in the party at the constituency level is one of the problems Mr. Guure hopes to address.
“[For me] it is going to be based on merit; your hardwork. What have you done [for the party?] in your particular polling station? What have you changed? What have you done to make the party attractive for people to come in? What is it that when we come to your branch, we hear about you? We go through all of these to ensure that when those opportunities are coming they are fairly distributed.”
“The time for that to end is now, when I am voted as constituency secretary,” he said.
Mr. Guure implied that the idea that, “monkey dey work, baboon dey chop” would be abolished if he is voted for.
