Joseph Dindok Kpemka, a former Member of Parliament for the Tempane Constituency in the Upper East Region has stated that he lost votes in the 2020 elections in some communities he would usually win.
The former Deputy Attorney General revealed on A1Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show that his opponents used the ‘galamsey’ fight to campaign against him in the 2020 elections.
“In my community, for example, where I contested in 2020, there’re some communities where I usually would win elections there, but this time round, the campaign there was that, oh, NPP is fighting galamsey; your children that’s where they go and get their daily bread. If they win again, they’ll perpetuate the issue of driving you away and beating you and killing you and every single community along that stretch I lost.”
Mr. Kpemka says “I’m not worried, but the point is somebody may have taken advantage of it. But the point is that can we continue that lifestyle as a people that when we’re in opposition we tell the people that when we come to power we’ll let them do the wrong and benefit and profit from it. Can we continue that lifestyle as a people? I don’t care whether its NPP is or NDC am making commentary to my cherished listener. Each of us must rethink the nation first.”
He added that he was expecting the opposition to support the President when he said he was prepared to put his presidency on the line to fight ‘galamsey’.

“When the President declared that he was prepared to put his presidency on the line to fight ‘galamsey’, I expected the opposition to do same by supporting the course that when we come we’ll even take the fight you’re doing to another notch. And then people would say that the government in power is fighting us, the one in opposition is saying that when they come they’ll fight us so let’s back off this. But when one is in government and the other one in opposition is in lukewarm attitude because of votes and the tables turn and the other one is fighting and because of votes the one that was in government now in opposition also begin to say the same thing, we’ll be tickling ourselves and laughing. We’re setting ourselves a very dangerous time bomb when it explodes all of us will leave to count the cost in a manner that’ll be so aggravating that we cannot imagine it,” he added.
