Popular T.V presenter, Gifty Anti has been honoured with an “Excellence Award for Giving Women a Platform and a Voice,” at the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO) conference. It comes at a time when her flagship T.V programme “Standpoint” turns five next month.

The ceremony was organized to mark AWLO’ 5th annual conference held at Oyo, Akwa Ibom in Nigeria on 14th June 2013. In all 10 women from across Africa were awarded. Gifty was the only Ghanaian.

Interestingly, the award comes at a time when her T.V programme ‘The Standpoint’ is marking it’s 5th anniversary on 11th July 2013. The Standpoint is a weekly female advocacy television show hosted by Gifty and aired on Ghana Television.

Activities to mark the anniversary start on 22nd June with a Muslim Women’s Conference under the theme “Maximizing the potential of the Muslim woman”.

It will be held at the GDA studios near Joyfm. The rest are “Women Called to Worship Conference” on 6th July at Trinity Baptist Church opposite UPS (former IPS) at 8am. Rev. Eastwood Anaba is the main speaker.

The annual walk for The Standpoint dubbed “FEMITHON: A walk for the abused Ghanaian Girl”, will be held on 13th July at the El WAK Sports Stadium at 6am.

In 2011, Gifty also received an award at the ‘Creative Industry Women Honors’, an event organised by the Musicians’ Union of Ghana.

Gifty is one of Ghana’s most recognised broadcasters and very well known for her passion for women’s rights. Her programme has covered a range of thought provoking issues including ‘Celebrating Single Women’, ‘Who is a Feminist?’ and ‘Women and Financial Independence’.

In November 2010, Gifty was one of the resource persons for African Women Development Fund’s ‘Convening on Women in the Arts’ alongside acclaimed South African songstress Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Nollywood actress Joke Silva and Kaine Agary winner of the 2008 Nigeria Prize for Literature.

The ace TV hotess got her first job at GTV, not as a presenter but as a Floor Manager and by dint of hard work, climbed up the ladder to become one of Ghana’s leading broadcasters as well as a role model to young girls.

Life has not been a bed of roses for the ace journalist. She revealed how she has had to work as a carpenter helping her dad and has at other times engaged in hawking.
