A former Deputy National Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen has called on president Nana Akufo Addo to pay attention to the call made by some Majority MPs to sack his Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.
Speaking on the Day Break Upper East show, the NPP stalwart said some people in the party sacrificed a lot to bring the party to the level it is now. He added that people are suffering in the country because of certain decisions taken by the finance minister and that the MPs are seeking a legitimate course.
He said ” now the MPs are saying that we are at a cross road. The cedis is depreciating, things are not going well. We are all suffering, it’s an undeniable fact. Now things are not going on well, yes everybody is complaining. All of us are crying that we don’t have money to pay for lorry fares, we don’t have money to pay school fees. The farmer is crying, the teacher is crying, the worker is crying, the lawyer is crying, everybody is crying. Now 80 of them are saying change the finance minister and change the deputy. Apart from the change, they have also raised several pertinent issues and you are saying that Obiri Boahen do you support the call or you don’t support their call. This is not the matter of individual idiosyncrasy. People have suffered for this tradition. People will continue to suffer for this tradition.”
Lawyer Obiri Boahen continues to admonish his party members to prioritise values such as honesty, principal truth and so on.
He said ” when Obiri Boahen speaks, every member of the NPP listens not because of the beauty, the height, the colour of Obiri Boahen but the message of integrity, truth, honesty, principle, sincerity, commitment, dedication and truth.”
“I am NPP and I’m saying that, Mr. President, why don’t you listen to them? In any case, do you need all of us who are not in parliament to advocate Mr. president? Mr. President, listen to the MPs.”
