Bongo to Make Economic Gains Out of Rocks

The Bongo District Assembly in collaboration with the University for Development Studies (UDS) and the Savanna Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) will convert rocks in the area to quarry and other minerals for investment. With an area of 459.5km², Bongo district is endowed with sedimentary rocks which occupy ⅓ of the total land space and could be used for economic gains including the production of tiles and cement.

Speaking exclusively to a1radioonline.com, presiding member of the assembly, Luke Ayamga Atazona said the long awaited dream when fulfilled will create jobs for the teeming unemployed youth in the district. The Presiding Member who doubles as a presidential staffer, a research economist at the presidency disclosed this in Bongo shortly after a dialogue meeting held on Friday.

The forum brought together chiefs, queen mothers, members of the assembly, security apparatus, opinion leaders and heads of departments provided a platform for stock taking as far as development of the district is concern.

Aside training the youth for selection in the youth employment modules, Mr. Ayamga added that plans are advanced to sensitize the youth in the district on employment skills in order to meet the job market.

Many people in the district and parts of the region due to lack of jobs have travelled down south in search of non- existent jobs. Some end up engaging in ungodly activities there. In order to avert this and to create more jobs for citizens, the presidential staffer mentioned that the assembly has plans to desilt the many dams in the district for individuals to engage in dry season farming.

District Chief Executive for Bongo, Alexis Adugdaa Ayamdoo gave a highlight of the district’s performance stating that Namoo Senior High School has been absorbed by government and construction will soon commence to pave way for effective teaching and learning. According to him, all Senior High Schools in the district are getting share of the Getfund projects. He added that the assembly will soon construct an office for the ambulance and fire service in the district to aid their work.

Individual’s unwillingness to release lands for development projects coupled with land degradation are amongst other challenges facing the assembly.

Naba Baba Salifu Lemyaarum, Paramount chief of the area during the meeting declared an end of social activities after 7 pm as one of the ways of curbing teenage pregnancies there.
