The Chief Executive Officer of the Naara Rural Bank Limited in the Upper East Region, Abraham Musah, has disclosed that the bank is projecting to provide financial support to over 5000 farmers.

According to him, the majority of farmers find it difficult to expand their operations owing to a lack of finance, which is why the bank launched an initiative to assist those who have innovative ideas to boost food production.

He said, “We did it last year, but there wasn’t much reason for such a target for this year. We know this initiative will not only improve the farmers’ food production, but it will boost their confidence in the agricultural sector. Just like our name “Naara” we are here to support clients with great ideas to grow their businesses. The only thing clients need is to open an account with us and share with us their ideas.”

The CEO made this known in an exclusive interview with our reporter, Moses Apiah.

He further stressed that “Naara Rural Bank for this year, we are changing our way of doing things from the past. Our support to farmers went down a little last year. But this year our target now is to go so much into farming. So, at the moment now we are looking up to assisting farmers not less than 4000 to 5000 in our catchment area. And that is our target.”

He noted that the bank has started enrolling small farmholders in the initiative.

“We have started putting people into groups, so, if you are at any point in time and want to be part of this initiative,  group yourselves to 2 or 3 and visit any of the branches. We will be there to assist you. We want them to be in groups so that we can be able to assist them to their expectation because most of them are usually the smallholder farmers because we want them in groups.”

Mr. Musah however assured clients the bank is there to support their financial needs just as its name implies.
