Kofi Ayamga Anamboyine, the Coordinator for the Free Senior High School in the Upper East Region, has disclosed that the Free SHS Secretariat is dealing with the concerns of the senior high schools with respect to food and its availability.

While admitting that there are concerns with access to corn and other food products in the schools, Mr. Anamboyine explained that rice, tinned fish, and sugar had been supplied to the schools to help manage the situation.

The Secretariat, with support from the National Buffer Stock Company, is working assiduously to help restock the schools, Mr. Anamboyine said when he spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show.

“When it comes to maize, groundnuts, [and] beans, we experienced shortages.”

“Local suppliers were contacted. They are in the process of delivering them. But as we speak, my office received food from Free SHS’ headquarters. [We received] 2,256 bags of rice, 2,215 packs of mackerels and sardines. We also received sugar and tin tomatoes. A supplier is on the way to add more. With regard to the maize and groundnut, even last week, I received positive information from some of the schools in the Bawku zone that the supplier brought in maize. I am hoping that those who pledged, it would continue this week,” he said.

Explaining his role as the coordinator of the government’s flagship educational programme in the Upper East Region, Mr. Anamboyine said, “My key functions are to monitor the programme at the school level [to verify] whether the students have access to books, uniforms, and whether there is food for them. I also have to work with stakeholders to see how the challenges that are emerging, as stakeholders, we can see how we can address them.”
