In what appears to be a battle for credit, some youth of the National Democratic Congress in the Nabdam constituency of the Upper East Region on Wednesday prevented the commencement of work on a broken bridge on the Nangodi-Yakoti road which collapsed over a decade ago.

Member of Parliament for the Nabdam constituency Hon. Boniface Gambila deployed a bulldozer to the site to clear the caved in bridge for a reconstruction after series of calls by residents and youth groups in the area to get the bridge repaired.

However, some youth threatened to vandalize the bulldozer and simulated work on the bridge with shovels and pickax. According to them, the parliamentary candidate of the National Democratic Congress Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane had promised to repair the bridge and had already commissioned community members to mobilize and pull down the bridge for reconstruction.

Nabdam Youth for Development in 2015 called on government and other stakeholders to repair the broken down bridge which posed danger to residents and commuters and hindering business activities in the area.

A team of police personnel was deployed to the scene to restore calm and met with the feuding factions to resolve the impasse.
